In The Federalist Posters Series, Italian artist and designer Lorenzo Epis offers a bold and imaginative rethinking of what Europe means — and what it could still become. The project, created in collaboration with the Union of European Federalists (UEF), consists of twelve posters that pay tribute to the organization’s historical roots while propelling its ideals into contemporary visual culture. Founded in 1946, the UEF has long stood for the creation of a European Federation — a dream that remains as vital today as it was nearly eighty years ago.

The series centers on the iconic green “E”, a powerful emblem of European federalism and unity. Epis reinterprets this symbol through a fresh and playful visual language that merges bold typography, archival imagery, pop culture references, and subtle humor. Each poster captures a different tone and message — from the urgent political wake-up call of Wake Up Europe! to the witty metaphor of the dentist cartoon, or the poetic optimism of Europe is a dream that always was.
Taken together, the twelve works form an act of artivism — where design becomes a tool for political reflection and engagement. Epis transforms the poster, a traditional medium of propaganda and protest, into a space for dialogue and imagination. His work challenges viewers to see Europe not as a static institution or bureaucratic entity, but as a living, evolving project that requires courage, creativity, and participation to be realized.

Born in 1993 in Bergamo, Italy, Lorenzo Epis is a multidisciplinary visual artist and graphic designer whose practice navigates the intersections of art, politics, and communication. Educated in Design for Art Direction at the University of the Arts London, he has developed a distinct aesthetic that balances conceptual depth with visual immediacy. Central to his work is the exploration of what he terms Europe’s “iconographic deficit” — the lack of a compelling shared visual identity that expresses the vitality of European integration.
Through projects like The Federalist Posters Series, Epis seeks to fill that gap by reimagining Europe’s visual culture as something dynamic, open, and participatory. His works have been shown at institutions such as the European Parliament, cultural programs like Bergamo Brescia Italian Capital of Culture 2023, and international events including EuropaFest in Frankfurt.
