THE ECHO: A New Framework for Designing Brands That Shape Culture

With the publication of THE ECHO: How To Design Brands That Move Culture, STUDIO HERRSTRÖM transforms years of branding experience into a practical guide for creatives looking to build brands with lasting cultural relevance. Written by founder and creative director Erik Herrström, the book introduces a structured framework designed to help designers, marketers, and brand builders create identities that generate connection instead of simply following trends.

Published in April 2026, the book introduces a practical methodology for building brands that generate cultural relevance instead of following existing trends, offering designers, creatives, marketers, and brand leaders a framework developed through years of professional experience.

Rather than relying on familiar references and safe creative decisions, THE ECHO encourages readers to rethink how brands are created from the ground up. Herrström argues that many branding processes begin with the same visual inspirations, producing identities that struggle to differentiate themselves in increasingly crowded markets. His proposed alternative focuses on creating stronger emotional connections, meaningful narratives, and long-term cultural resonance.

The book is structured around THE ECHO™, STUDIO HERRSTRÖM’s proprietary framework, which is divided into three stages: Immerse, Create, and Impact. The first phase emphasizes research, observation, and deep listening to uncover authentic insights. These findings are then translated into distinctive visual and strategic identities before being expanded into experiences capable of reaching audiences and generating lasting influence. Developed through years of collaboration across branding projects, the framework provides practical strategies that can be implemented throughout the brand-building process, helping creatives build more meaningful and culturally resonant brands.

Alongside its methodology, THE ECHO combines practical guidance with personal reflections from Herrström’s career. He openly shares lessons learned from successful projects as well as creative decisions that failed, offering readers a transparent perspective on the realities of building brands. The publication also broadens its viewpoint through contributions from 18 industry leaders representing music, technology, and entertainment, including professionals from MTV, Nothing, Marshall, Boiler Room, and Universal Music Group.

Erik Herrström brings more than two decades of international experience to the publication. Originally from Sweden, he spent much of his career in New York before founding the Vienna-based STUDIO HERRSTRÖM, where he works across branding projects in music, entertainment, and technology. Previously serving as Brand Design Director at Spotify, his work has been recognized with more than 130 industry awards. THE ECHO translates that experience into a practical resource that challenges conventional branding methods while offering a structured path toward creating identities capable of influencing culture rather than simply reflecting it.
