How Truffl Reconnected rag & bone with the Spirit of New York
Few fashion brands are as closely associated with New York as rag & bone. Founded in the city and shaped by its distinctive energy, the label has long built its identity around authenticity, craftsmanship, and an effortless urban attitude. In its recent rebrand, Truffl set out to strengthen that connection by bringing rag & bone back to its roots and re-establishing New York as the defining influence behind the brand’s visual language.
The rebrand embraces the grit, character, and cultural richness that have always defined the city. Rather than pursuing a polished or overly refined aesthetic, Truffl developed a system that celebrates the tactile and imperfect qualities of analog design. Manual techniques, physical textures, and handcrafted elements create a visual identity that feels grounded, expressive, and unmistakably human.

Typography plays a central role in the new brand system. Drawing inspiration from downtown New York during the Warhol era, the design references the typography found on marquees, concert posters, and cultural ephemera that once filled the city’s streets. The result is a visual language that feels both nostalgic and contemporary, capturing the creative spirit that continues to define New York today.

One of the most distinctive aspects of the project is the logo itself. Rather than creating a completely new mark, Truffl reconstructed a logo scanned from a 1930s Royal Typewriter specimen, giving the brand a sense of heritage while reinforcing its commitment to authenticity. This approach reflects the broader philosophy of the rebrand, which looks to the past as a source of character and meaning rather than simply aesthetic inspiration.
The identity extends through a rich collection of supporting elements, including hand-drawn icons, film photography, stencils, stamps, and sewn details. Together, these components create a flexible and highly recognizable system that feels crafted rather than manufactured, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to quality and individuality.
