BS Resort Sans Brings Clarity and Flexibility to Contemporary Typography
BS Resort Sans is the latest typeface family from Bolid System, the independent type design studio founded by ÉCAL graduates Arthur Schwarz and Maël Bächtold. Designed as a highly functional and legible sans serif, the family expands the BS Resort universe with a more neutral and versatile approach, tailored for digital interfaces, editorial environments, and extended reading experiences.
Built around the architectural foundations of the original BS Resort family, BS Resort Sans adopts a low-contrast structure that prioritizes clarity without sacrificing personality. The result is a typeface that feels precise and dependable while remaining approachable and easy to read. Its slightly condensed proportions help maximize space efficiency, making it particularly well-suited for UI design and information-rich layouts where readability is essential.

One of the defining strengths of the family is its flexibility. Through a carefully developed set of OpenType alternates, BS Resort Sans can adapt its visual tone to different contexts and communication needs. The default character set emphasizes warmth and readability through details such as a double-storey “a,” a single-storey “g,” rounded dots, and a distinctive “t” with a curved terminal. For more formal applications, designers can activate square punctuation and alternate letterforms that create a stricter, more technical appearance. Additional stylistic substitutions provide even greater control over the overall personality of the typeface.

The family offers an extensive range of options, spanning ten weights from Thin to Black. Each weight is paired with both a standard Italic set at 13 degrees and a more expressive Super Italic set at 26 degrees, bringing the total collection to thirty styles. A variable font version further enhances usability by allowing continuous adjustment across both weight and slant axes, making the typeface adaptable to a wide range of digital and print applications.
Through BS Resort Sans, Bolid System demonstrates its commitment to creating typefaces that balance technical precision with practical usability. The project reflects the studio’s broader philosophy of treating typography as a fundamental design material, capable of shaping how information is communicated, perceived, and understood. With its combination of functionality, flexibility, and carefully considered details, BS Resort Sans positions itself as a contemporary tool for designers seeking both performance and personality.
