Bergmál: Strik Studio Creates the Identity for Iceland’s New Solstice Music Festival

A new cultural event is set to debut in one of Iceland’s most extraordinary natural settings. BERGMÁL, a first-of-its-kind music festival held within Þingvellir National Park and headlined by KALEO, combines music, landscape, and history in a unique experience shaped by the country’s dramatic environment. To bring this vision to life, Reykjavík-based creative agency Strik Studio developed both the festival’s name and visual identity.

Taking place during the summer solstice, BERGMÁL unfolds beneath Iceland’s midnight sun, where daylight stretches deep into the night and transforms the landscape into an endless golden hour. This natural phenomenon becomes an integral part of the festival experience, creating a setting unlike any conventional music venue.

The name BERGMÁL, which translates to “Echo,” is rooted in the history and geography of Þingvellir. The location is known for its remarkable natural acoustics, where voices once carried across the rift valley during gatherings of Alþingi, one of the world’s oldest parliamentary assemblies. Drawing from this legacy, the festival’s identity reflects both the memory of the past and the anticipation of a new cultural tradition.

Strik Studio approached the project by creating a visual language that feels connected to its surroundings while remaining contemporary and forward-looking. The identity captures the atmosphere of the Icelandic landscape, balancing a sense of nostalgia with the excitement of a new event entering the cultural calendar.

The result is a brand that feels inseparable from its location. Rather than relying on generic festival aesthetics, BERGMÁL embraces the character of Þingvellir itself, allowing history, sound, and nature to shape every aspect of its visual expression.
