What if superpowers could be visualized through type? That’s the creative challenge that motion designer Alex Canedo set for himself in his latest personal project, The Fantastic Four.
A lifelong fan of comic book heroes, Alex found inspiration in the legendary Marvel team to explore a bold new direction in type animation. Each member of The Fantastic Four—Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing—was reimagined not with illustration or narrative, but through motion and typography.
Canedo designed four distinct animations, each reflecting the personality and powers of a hero from the team. Through movement, color, and expressive type forms, he brought to life the elasticity of Mr. Fantastic, the invisibility and force fields of Sue Storm, the fiery energy of Johnny Blaze, and the raw strength of Ben Grimm. The result is a kinetic homage that blends nostalgia with fresh visual experimentation.
Staying true to the team’s iconic color palette, Alex infused each animation with playful motion and thoughtful design, showing how typography can do more than communicate words—it can tell stories and convey power.
Based in Porto, Portugal, Alex Canedo is a motion designer with a deep passion for type animation. Always seeking new and imaginative ways to animate letters, The Fantastic Four is just one example of how he brings meaning and energy to the written word.
