Every Days: Stories of Connection Across Different Lives

Every Days is an editorial project by Porto-based communication designer Alícia Pereira, bringing together a selection of short stories from Paul Auster’s True Tales of American Life. The publication reflects on the shared experiences that remain consistent across generations—from illness, hunger and pain to the universal desire for human connection.

At the heart of the project is the idea of continuity: the invisible threads linking people from different places, backgrounds and circumstances, even when their lives never directly intersect. Through these personal accounts, everyday experiences become part of a broader collective narrative.

The editorial design gives each story its own rhythm. White space, pauses and shifting compositions respond to the tone and emotional weight of each voice, allowing every account to unfold at its own pace. A distinctive dot illustration introduces each story, acting as a visual metaphor for the connections running throughout the publication.

Based in Porto, Alícia Pereira is a multidisciplinary communication designer whose practice combines critical thinking with material experimentation. Working across typography, editorial design, printing, textiles and branding, she explores how design can encourage dialogue, interaction and a sense of belonging. In Every Days, this approach results in a thoughtful publication that transforms individual memories into a reflection on what people ultimately share.
